Hello everyone, so i am a saltwater newbie, but already addicted. I have a 30 gallon soon to be reef tank. I have just purchased an octopus bh100; it is a hang on back skimmer. After seeing how big it is, I think I wanna build a custom sump that will fir in the stand of my tank. I was wondering if it would be possible to just throw the bh100 skimmer on the sump tank? Is this possible, would it work, and still skim well from the sump?
    Thanks in advance.

It's not ideal, obviously, but I see no reason it wouldn't work just as well...

As long as your sump is tall enough the Skimmer would work. But an in sump Skimmer would be so much better. Maybe try to sell it and use the money towards a little bigger skimmer? I'm sure you're aware HOB's are really for those without the luxury of a sump. But for practical purposes, it would work.

Yeah i know its not ideal, but at first i did not want to have to build a sump, but im having second thoughts. I want a sump, but already purchased the octopus so i think i might try to see how it works in the sump.
Thanks again for the advice guys.

I did it for the first few months of my reef's life. I modified the plumbing so that the pump ran along the side of the skimmer body. I've since changed to an Eshopps 100h and it works/fits so much better.
