Was just wondering if it would be better to use bottled distilled water instead of RO/DI... Called the water bottling plant which is only a mile away from my house and they said that distilled water is better because it has all the impurities removed. The process is done in a stainless steel tank, then bottled.

I think if you have a well working RO/DI unit it would be the same. In other words if your TDS =0 at the end of your RO/DI then they should be the same (or about the same). However if not then the distilled water should be cleaner and more pure water. I guess you are just more sure the distilled water is good every time.

If you have the ability to get cheap distilled water I would do that, but for most of us over time the RO/DI is cheaper and as long as you change the filters on time just as good.

You can usually get it lots cheaper at a local fish store, assuming you trust them.

Other than that...it should be fine either way.

At this price it is up to you. I would trust distilled over another person's RO/DI for sure. But at that price I would, and do, make my own RO/DI.

If you have a very small tank, .70 a gallon would be fine, but everyone with a bigger tank and multiple tanks usually end up with their own RO/DI unit.

As long as those machines are maintained properly they are great. Unfortunately, most are not.

Good RO/DI is slightly better than distilled but if you must purchase water I would go distilled unless you have a TDS mete rand trust the vendor.
Vending machines are usually RO only so are not as pure, plus you are at the mercy of their maintanance or lack thereof and machines do not fall under any health regulations so can be hit and miss.

Once you own a RO/DIsystem the cost averages less than a nickel a gallon to make water and this includes the average water and sewer rates and replacement filters and DI resin in that nickel. I always recommend owning your very own RO/DI if possible so you alone control its quality.

yeah I was using RO water from a local health food store paying 40 cents per gallon, but I brought the water to my lfs and it was not good. I am now using distilled water, it is a little more expensive but I am doing 2 gallon water change/week so it doesn't exactly break the bank.
