    HL14,

It probably will make the Alk and Calc levels change a bit. The idea is really to get the MAg at about 1400ppm and once there start to adjust the Alk and Calc. You will find, in most tanks that the Mag level is probably at around the +1000ppm level already so it should not take more than a few days to get the Mag a bit higher.

I have found that if you try to adjust all three at once or even on consecutive days it ends up in a mess with either the Alk or Calc higher than what you targeted.

What kind of frags did you bring home? [/quote]

Lets see, torch, pipe organ (daisy polyps), orange montipora cap., green montipora digi., purple montipora digi., kenya tree, anthellia (glove polyps) and some yellow gorgonian. Lots of wee little frags to take care of =) I never knew that a torch could be fragged, got my fingers crossed on that one, everything else seems to be doing great!

As for Beamer, we are in the same state, but still pretty far apart. I think her and her hubby drove in for the event.

As for my mag level, I'm at 1080 and climbing! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

How did they frag the torch coral?  Was it just by breaking off some skeleton ( Calyx )?

Oh dear....please please please, take the anthellia out. I made the mistake of adding that *&^% when I first set up my 90 gallon and it has been the bane of my tank ever since. It will spread like a weed and overgrow everything. You may like the way it looks now but trust me, you will be mighty p*ssed off later especially considering you're starting to keep sps corals.

OK, I feel better now that I got that out :)

The other frags sound wonderful and I can't believe you got so many!

Most lps corals can be easily fragged. The branching variety are the easiest though as you just have to cut the branch off where it meets the rest of the coral. It helps to have a Dremmel though :)

I've been thinking about ditching the anthellia after seeing what the colony we fragged looked like! On the torch, unfortunately, it isn't an entire branch, but the owner fragged the "head", so it's a chunk of skeleton with lots of tentacles in tact. It's still alive, so I'll have to wait and see what happens. The rest of the stuff is doing well...except for the gorgonian, it hasn't opened since I took it out of the bag. :-/

Not much of a loss, the workshop was only $10 to attend [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

    Hi GraviT!

It was great getting to meet you and visit with you for a few minutes. I wish we'd been at your table. It sounds like you got a lot of fragging done. I was just mostly watching since I don't have room for anything plus my water conditions being as bad as they are. I have several things that are dying right now. But it was a terrific workshop and I think Marc did a great job!

I live in East Texas about 100 miles from Dallas, so we drove in for the workshop since it was so close.

    Good seeing you!

Yeah, ditch that mother or you'll hate yourself in a month :)

What kind of gorgonian is it? Any idea what color the polyps are?

Ok amcarrig, you twisted my arm. I took the anthellia out of the tank and dropped it into the 'fuge. I may take it up to my closest LFS and trade it for 5 gallons of saltwater or something. I couldn't bring myself to throw it away!

The gorgonian is a wee little piece of Diodogorgia nodulifera, much like this (white polyps):

The polyps did open this morning, so I think it's going to make it! ;D

Nice to meet you too Beamer!

If your running a calcium reactor, you can add 2 cups of dolomite to it. Tha will help keep your mag levels up.
