using old sand?

    hey my 72 bow has been shut down for about 7 months now, could i use the sand from it if i rinse it for my refugium for my new setup?

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I can not think of a reason not to. Seems like if you rinse it to remove any old detritus it should be fine IMO.

    You can, but it would probably just be easier to replace it. Just make sure to rinse it very well.

    If its 7 months old, I believe its going to be OK

    (the potential dangers with sand beds are releasing trapped pockets of nutrients back into the water - hence many people discard old sand when re setting up tanks)

    but with a tank only 7 months old, its probably not an issue

    if you want the sand for use in a fuge, and it is very dirty you want to rinse it with tank water and not RODI or tap water - because rinsing in those 2 would kill of the bacteria you want in your fuge
