Hi guys. I've been in the hobby for several years now and currently have a 28 bowfront with HOB refug, Fluval 205 canister filter, 24" MH and T5 light system, a little skimmer in the refug and a Turbo Twist 3X. I have always dosed Dr. G's Phyto towards the end of the day, every other day. When I do use Dr. G, i turn off the skimmer and the UV light until the next morning to get the most of it. Does this matter? Should I turn anything off? I was under the impression that the UV will kill the phyto and the skimmer will just suck it all out before the corals get it. Thanks in advance ;D

Yes, the UV will kill the phytoplankton. However, when it comes to phyto, most animals that eat it don't really care if it's dead or alive. They are mainly interested in cell size. As a result, I don't think it's a big deal if you leave the UV on. The skimmer on the other hand is very good at removing phyto so you can turn that off overnight.
