Are USPS tracking numbers some kind of joke for the stuff we order.
i cant count the number of times that i received an order and the tracking number was never updated from the original submission from the seller, till after it was dropped I'm my mail box. :( why do they even bother other than to put a few bucks more in there pocket. and then they complain emails have heart there profits no wonder with such bad service practices.

    OK done venting.

As far as delivery & notification I feel ya. On the flip side though when that day something gets lost or I need it for some DOA livestock I'll be glad its there.

Remember that these companies vary greatly from region to region. Even though you and I are in North Carolina, FedEx is absolutely awful here in Charlotte. I pay extra to have my livestock shipped UPS or USPS. :) I feel the way you feel, only about FedEx. I feel ya on shipping carriers. I guess our standards are just too high. ;D

I'm a big fan of the USPS. I hate UPS, but that's what most vendors use so not much I can do about it. I do agree that their tracking is a joke. When I ordered my lights they never updated the location of the package, then when it was late they totally removed its status. I had to call them to find out about the package, come to find out they had never even sent it. I got it the next day, I assume they sent it out overnight after I called.

In my area it's a hit and miss with these companies..my biggest complant with UPS is that when an item is delivered to my house that requires a signature, they wont always leave the tracking/signature notice. When I ordered my rock from Reefcleaners, the 3 boxes were crushed.. I received a lot of little rubble. Fedex has never let me down.

Yes their tracking system sucks for ground delivery and is spotty on Express but at least you have something to go back on if there were problems.

I know what your saying about different areas. Here UPS is the one to dread where I live. It doesnt matter what you buy but it looks like the box was used for a wheel chock after a couple games of soccer. Maybe they use them instead of cans behind the 'just married' UPS truck, I dunno. I have never bought anything living that has arrived completely alive shipped UPS.

I have the advantage of having a FEDEX shipper that can receive and hold packages about 1 1/2 miles form the house, and they know what I get in the mail (meaning corals and stuff) so my boxes are well taken care of for the 10 minutes they are there until I can pick up.

My post office is pretty good with taking care of and holding packages too when I call them so normally either USPS or FEDEX works for me its just a matter of price.

The USPS postal system isn't really meant for tracking. What you are paying for is a notification of delivery or a delivery related event. An event can be anything from a refusal of delivery or a return to sender or even just an attempted delivery and nobody was home.

If anyone is selling it to you as an active tracking system that keeps you updated as the package is on its journey to your house they either don't know what it really is for or have no idea what they are selling.

The main reason people use it is delivery confirmation or to learn if there was some sort of problem with the delivery, which is all it is meant for.

I had to take some ridiculous classes over postage and you all would be surprised at the information out there and misconceptions associated with many of the "features" of the USPS or any mailer for that matter.
