I have been running UV for 2 years now and have considered running Ozone a few times. Can you run them together? Any thought is appreciated.;)

I wouldn't see why not, although I don't want to run ozone because of the inherant risks.

What risks are you aware of?

This is one of those topics that you will get various opinions.

People will tell you about the risks and all. What I can tell you is that since 1988 my tanks ran ozone, just a few years worth of actual data for you.

    Peace.

Although the levels in aquariums are usually low, if ozone leaks out, it may cause asphyxiation of fish and humans, along with altering pH and making things brittle.

To me the risks are minimal, because levels of ozone are so small plus you can smell ozone if you have aa leak.

I think running a calcium reactor with co2 would be more risky then running ozone but that's just me. I don't have any experience with either but co2 is odorless and ozone smells horrible I think I heard.

What exactely do you think you will accomplish? Ozone is quite safe if used correctly and the proper precautions are taken. Personnel I think it is more preferable than UV as it breaks down decaying organics, rather than kills living organisms as UV does much more effectively (I'm not a fan of killing everything in the water column, but to each their own). For this reason I think UV in itself is overkill, but UV will also create some ozone. So both seem like just more overkill IMO and I doubt you will see a benefit. However, if you think it will do something magical, power to ya ;D

Thanks to all the responses. I think I will hang on with the UV. BTW it doesn't kill everything in the water column. Only what passes through it. It has greatly reduced Algae and Ich. My Tangs used to get Ich now and then. Since the UV. None in 2 yrs.

How do you explain then that ozone is pumped into the HVAC systems for bathrooms in public spaces, malls and airports and the public spaces in those places too?
