    A sterilizer, sorry
I have been thinking about one in a tank that has developed bubble algae I think the source was a rock in the sump.
If I had a sterilizer would it, could it reduce the number of spores in the water column?
Would it kill "bugs"? would it adversely affect Coraline spread?
How about corals that spread by spores?

The only thing UV will kill is what's in the water column that passes through the unit. Most tanks that run UV have less algae, disease and clearer water. Ozone will do all of the same things only better and remove DOC from the water column.

Ozone will do all the same with the added risk that you could wipe out your entire tank if you overdose! I run an Aqua 57 watt UV on mine and have no problems.

Pod's are NOT an issue, I have tons on my rock. I think the whole debate over UV's is kind of Old School Vs. New School.

A UV sterilizer would have a hard time with killing copepods IMO. Even strong ones struggle with things far smaller, like ich.

I have used a UV sterilizer for well over a year now and I have no complaints other than having to replace the UV bulb every year (kinda exspensive).
