I wouldn't resort to uv for nuisance algae control.

Hey Kendron, this is one of those subjects that is always a ongoing debate, some people will say that there are worthless and others will say they swear by them, I used to run one in my tank about a year ago I did notice a difference.(but I never replaced the bulb when it went.)
the one argument that always poops up is that it kills the good bacteria in your tank but I have always believed that the bacteria lives in the substrate and live rock and is not free floating all over but that is just my MHO.
Also for fighting algae the only thing it will do is kill the spores that are in the water it won't kill the existing algae that is in the tank.

Where do you get your water from? RO/DI? Tap?

What kind of salt mix do you use?

    What is your cleanup crew?

What are your parameters...pH, Salinity, Alk, Ca, Mg etc

How many fish do you have and what do you feed them daily?

If you can answer these questions and give us some pictures it will help you a whole lot.

I don't think UV filter will remove hair algae. It might stop it from spreading. It will control free floating algae.

I have a 120. Let me know of you need any help with your 125.

UV would be better for prevention rather than eradication.

I use ro/di and i changed my filters and there are curently no fish just corals, snails stars, hermits, urchins, it is not my light i replaced those already, but if i put uv it should kill any recurring right, i can get rid of what in there just dont want any to grow back

like missionsix said it will help prevent it so yes. also you have to have different flows going through it to kill different things . it matters what the flow rate is going through it, if its to fast the things going in wont get zap by the light. I don't know the flow rates of hand but it should come with instructions explaining that.

I'm surprised your yellow tang is not eating it. Hair algae doesn't stand a chance in my tank with the tangs.
    Starve the alge:
Macro Alge- in tank or refugium. Chaeto seems most popular.
Reduce phosphates- phos reactor, cut down on food especially flakes , RO/DI
Reduce lighting time, Cleaning crew such as emerald and fuzzy cheaton love green stuff.
I'm not convince about the UV sterilizers but it would probably help.
