Hi everyone, I have been running my 30g (going reef) for about a week with two snails, one hermit and two beautifully cultured live rock (all kinds of colors). I am building this reef really slow and trying to find the best rock that I can get, nothing but PREMIUM! Anyway, everything has been running smooth; just added some powerheads running and getting some current going in the water. I also added a polyp frag (pretty big and got it cheap! - $25). I am replacing my return hose (ugly) with PVC piping, but put that on hold till I can get a good uv sterilizer installed within the piping.

My question is.. what are the best brands in UV Sterilizing units? Coralife, Jebo, etc? I have a 30g, how many watts power would be sufficient with my tank.

Sorry no experience with UV here, but I was curious what sold you on it?

I use a coralife turbo-twist 3x, I like it. The hard thing to tell is if its helping anything though. What I mean is that my fish show no signs of parasitic or bacterial infection, but that could just be because I quarantine all livestock first. But the extra help never hurts in my opinion.

You never know, it might be working it's magic. What sold me on it was that it uses a powerful UV light to kill off bad organisms and pest one cell algae.

What pump are you running with it?

I'm currently using a Mini Jet 606, it flows a max of 153 gph. I have the pump sitting in the back corner of my tank, not the best location but it works for now. From what I've read it should go in the sump, but when I bought the pump and UV sterilizer I was not aware of that. But I think it is fine in the back corner, no "bugs' that I know of ;D

I have read that you do have to run a pump sucking out 100-200gph, so running the uv sterilizer from my rio 2100 isn't a good idea, since I was planning on adding the unit as the water made a trip back to the tank.

So, you have to run a seperate pump within the sump and then pump it back to the sump??
