Hello, I am interested in UV Sterilizers. However, I am not 100% informed on what they are exactly for and what the Pros and Cons Are. So Im asking you all. Any info on them is welcome and appreciated. THe only thing stoping me from getting one is that someone told me that it will kill the nutrients the corals and inverts need out of the water however I don't know if this is true. So please Help me guys Thanks :)

UV sterilizers will kill live plankton which is why most people don't like to use them in reef tanks. What are you looking to add a UV for?

Well, it can help with your algae problem but you have to fix the problem that's causing it unless you want to run the UV constantly (and those bulbs are expensive and need to be replaced often).

My water paramiters are good. The only thing I can think of is that is near a big window. Maybe also because of a die off in tank? I dont know about that. I had two fish die in tank but they weren't left in it. I am mostly leaning towards that is near a window.

yea definately near a window, the natural sunlight will cause EXTREME algae. I am also considering a UV I already have one ( go to aquatrader.com for a really inexpensive one) I might only use it for prep water, I dont plan to use RO/DI and incase of an algae bloom or attack and I dont plan on using it even 1hr per day on an algae attack day. I would personally move the tank or: put something infront of the window (thick drapes) or put black paper on the side of the tank closest to the window,
