its of limited use but if you wanna save your fish put them in a quarantine tank and treat them using hyposalinity

Your tank is a reef? The best way to treat Ich is to move the infected fish to a qt. And then medicate there.

A UV sterilizer won't kill the Ich thats already on and in the fish. However, it will kill any free floating parasites that pass through it. As long as free floating algae that should happen to pass through. IMO, the biocube UV sterilizer wont pick up much, because of it's light power and size. But thats just my two cents.

+1 UVs are not effective at ridding a tank of ich, but they are not bad things to have in place

wowowowowoowow are you useing copper in your tank. if you are you will never be able to put invets or corals in the tank and also hyposalinity dosent do that much the only sure fire way with out as much strese as hyposalinity is copper

uv sterilizers work. get one you wont be sorry. pull the clowns and fresh water dip them. and put them back into the main tank. i have done this with a uv and the fish were fine. i dipped the clowns one day waited a day and dipped them again. than no signs of ich no other fish infected. the uv keeps the water free of parasites, give the fish a chance to fight the ich, as does the fresh water dip. uv helps in so many ways. also is good for bacteria that causes the sore's people get on their hands from the tank. as you can see im a firm believer in uv on a tank.

I think itd be risky to do a FW dip. It would stress the fish out more, and lower his immune system. A UV won't kill the parasite within just hours either. So if you put the clown back into the dt, then it's likely to get infected. If you do a FW dip(very rare that it'll completely cure Ich), it'll most likely relieve symptoms for a while, but the fish will still be infected. Your best option is either hyposalinity of copper based medications in a quarantine tank.

I've started a thread similar to this:
I've installed my uv and yes it helps alot...
Although the method i went about is I only use the uv when I see a paristes on my livestock...
as for the rest it's off,but it's there when I need it...
    I'd say go for it...
I have a medium sized yellow tang,he devloped enternal parasites for who knows what reason...
I have a pretty much stocked 83 gallon closed system.
I decided that catching him and setting up a hospital tank is too much for me to do plus I have to spend an amount which i'm trying to cut down on...
my uv I ended up purchasing ahwile back knowing I will know it would be handy in my reef...
    So yes go for it!
my yellow tang has been looking really good ever since the uv helped my reef kill off them parasites..
I let the uv run for 3 weeks, those weeks I noticed 2 things the !st
my fishes fins, and shape of there skin tectures became more healthier...
2nd my water was amazingly crystal clear...
I unplugged it knowing if I do the parasites would return...
we'll it's been 3 months since then and without my uv on and tank looks clear of parasites...
    knock on wood hehe
