uv sterilizers are a good thing. Ultraviolet Sterilization by Peter and John Cunningham, Aquarists Online just be sure to research the uv you buy they all aren't equal. some bulbs run longer instead of 6 months time to change its 18 months , and water contact with the light longer pass threw time is better.
i have one of the aqua's great unit. I'm really happy with it.

UV sterilizers will only get rid of free floating parasites and not any infections present on the fish. The garlic will help their immune system to keep them fighting it. UV wil help with the free floating form stage of the parasite so its good to have it but garlic and a good supplement like selcon will help them fight it off. Good Luck!!

My UV is the best thing I have every bought for my tank. I had ick and a green hair algae problem. Fixed both in about 6 weeks. It will also help keep your whole tank alot healther.

+1 above, i believe Uv is a great part of a reef keeper system and will help you with your problem. Also another great part not talked about much is Ozone. Reading about what UV does in the aquarium will help you understand and give you a nice step up on your system if you choose to install.

    Best of luck!
