Also a disclaimer, when i said my glass looks great,i meant the inside of the glass. The outside is a different story thanks to my 2yr old sons grubby paws poking at the snails on the glass

you too!? I have a show and tell with the neighbor kids once in awhile..they love it...me, kinda enjoy it,except afore mentioned grubby paws...and the fish, nope...;)
..and back to the UV..well, if it DOES help with the sluff on the glass, I will be happy-er.:cheesy:

    Agreed.

I've had mine going for a few months now and I have to say, the great reduction in algae on the glass was worth it just for that.

Just a couple days ago I increased the flow rate through it as I suspected it was too low. It was a guestimate to try and get to about 2 liters a minute which is close to the recommended 100 liters and hour. Wow... what a difference, an even greater reduction of algae on the glass and another cool benefit is that water clarity is noticeably improved.

I am starting to really love my UV. I have an Aqua Medic 5 watt version on my 30 gallon nano. Gravity fed to the sump. No pumps. Only a 5 watt add to the draw of my tank.

I'm a believer in uv's being beneficial ... in more ways than the eye can even see.
if i were you i would get a uv thats rated for the size tank you have. i never heard of what the sales person told you. check ebay for used ones there are plenty out there. i bought mine from ebay its a 170.00 unit for 18.00 shipped to me! i than bought a new bulb for it since i didn't know how old the bulb was.
