uv sterilizer

    i just set up me refugium, but i dont have a uv sterilizer. should i have one? will it kill my good bacteria with the bad?

    Yep. To it, bacteria, good or bad, is just bacteria.........

    thats what i thought was going to happen. thats why i havent put one on yet. however i dont want my caluripa to transfer into my main tank. the uv ster. would kill the copapods too?

    do any of you guys run uv sterilizers on ur refu?

    I could be wrong but my understanding of uv's they are used on heavily stocked reefs and fish only tanks mostly.Reef tanks use the good bacteria that the uv kills...does more bad then good save your $$$

    that was my train of thought, but this is my first refugium. and i have had algea problems before, and now i am growing it and i dont want to infect my main. but it looks like i had the right idea not installing one, i was scaried for my good bacteria
