UV Sterilizers

    Hi all lets talk UV Sterilizers do I need one for my reek tank 40 gl,if so what is a good one

    Imo, I don't think you really need a uv sterilizer. If I had a fish only tank then I may consider it. I have had my tanks set up for well over 5 years now with no problems as far as disease ...knock on wood!!!!! Especially with Tangs who are prone to diseases since they don't have scales... it is pretty amazing. The main reason, I feel, that i've had the success that I have is that the fish aren't stressed out. By having alot of hiding places for the fish, by not introducing fish frequently(alot of them are diseased when you purchase them), and having the right tank mates, not to mention proper feeding, supplementation and water parameters.
    So, as for the uv sterilizer goes... use the money to buy a nice piece(s) of coral or update your lighting!!!
    Again, it is just my opinion...if it's not broke- don't fix it!

    Not on a SW reef. I run one in my planted FW cichlid tank and it helps prevent algal and bacterial blooms, and disease there. In a SW reef it would kill any free-floating live foods your corals may eat. My SW does not need one!
