With recent post's about concerns of tanks over heating caused by pumps I thought I would post GPH and power consumption of various pumps.
    Pump 0ft - 4ft - Watts - Max Head

    Mag 3 375gph - 270 - 35w - 9ft
    Mag 5 500 - 310 - 45w - 10.5
    Mag 7 700 - 480 - 70w - 12.5
    Mag 9 950 - 800 - 93w -

    QuietOne
    3000 780 - 580 - 40w - 10.5ft
    4000 1017 - 750 - 50 - 10.5
    5000 1330 - 880 - 110 - 13

    Rio Plus
    1400 420 - 243 - 26w - 6.5ft
    1700 642 - 352 - 33w - 8
    2100 692 - 375 - 37w - 8
    2500 782 - 529 - 49w - 10

    RioHF's are at 1ft vs 0ft
    HF12 780 - 580 - 40w - 9.5ft

    HF14 840 - 660 45w 10 HF17 1090 840 55w 10
    HF20 1290 990 60w 10.

    Seio 620 = 620gph 8w
    Seio 820 = 820 18w
    Tunze 6060 = 1600gph 11w
    Tunze6000 = 1850gph 15w

I currently use the Queit One 3000 as the return pump from my sump. I think they are a little over rated in the GPH.

Good post Raven.. and a good idea (thinking out loud) to add to the 3reef article database. ;)

Hey I was just looking at the Quiet One 3000 for my turtle tank (75 show). I was going to drill it out and put on a wet/dry this weekend with Gresham's help. Should I get a bigger model?

How much head pressure does it have to pump against? I think that the Quiet one pumps are slightly over rated in their GPH at least compared to my Rio hyperflow 12 vs the 3000. The 3000 that I have is whisper quiet and I cant even tell its running except for the fact that I can hear my overflow. With that said, if you need over 600gph at 4' HP then go with the 4000 which uses only 10watts more. There is also a 4000 High Head pressure model which uses 120watts but pumps at 15'

3-4 feet. I wish I read your post before I ordered the 3000. :p It should be 'ok,' but I tend to believe what you are saying - however the 4000 was about 30 dollars more, which did play a part in my decision.

That said, most of the current right now is being provided by a maxi-jet 1200. I would think it should be better than that. I am thinking about ordering a SCWD too as it is freshwater. (The one on my salt tank jammed. ::) )
