I am setting up a 125 FOLWR tank, thin layer for looks. But my refugium will have a lot of sand. I see different posts on here abotu various brands of sand as a low cost alternative. Quickrete is one that mentioned, it is one availabe in my area. After researching variosu sites, I see that of course we want aragonite based, but it is harder to find. Many on here say no to silca sand, but after reading some lenghty articles and posts on RC, it is noted that almsot any sand is ok to use, and it will not release silicas into the system, if so slightly. Also to be noted, some people even add silica to their tanks. All of the tech terms,e tc is over my head. Also, the most important thing I found in my readings was the actual grain size is the most important hting to look for, very fine.
So, my question has anyone tried quickrete, if so is it ok?

    Hey there! :D

I don't know if you read this in your travels, but there is some concern about the silica acting as glass on sand sifting animals, such as gobies and jawfish. My tang also sifts the sand. There is 'anectdotal' links to fish deaths... Just FYI...

I have not used quickcrete. Doesn't your Home Depot (or the like) carry a playsand that is aragonite? We have Old Castle Stone Playsand around here....

Nope, can't find anything around here! Yes, I did hear that. I need it for my new 125 FOLWR, angels, triggers, etc. So that's why I am looking for an alternative to actual LFS sand.
