I did the exact same thing. Cost me almost 3x what I budgeted to spend, but worth it in the end. With this hobby, a dollar saved is more dollars spent later!

it is nice to have everyone on 3reef be supportive of my build. This tank is definately going over budget but it will be worth it in the long run. Along this build if anyone has any advise please share it. I am allways willing to change my ideas for the better just ask Tangster.

The stand is now complete. Now I need to refinish the canopy. I will not be able to do any more work on the project for over a week due to work and family events. On the bright side I can now put the tank on the stand to start designing the plumbing and dreaming about fish swimming in it.

Sorry about the poor quality photo. The flash was making the paint look funny.

Looking good! I'm jealous as hell! You may want to consider 48" T5's side by side. I have an 8x54W T5 retrofit kit in my 48x24x24 120 gal it's actually about 47" x 12 1/8" and includes 3 chords. 1 for the 8 LED moonlights, 1 for 2 of the T5's for dawn/dusk and 1 for the other 6 T5's. I swapped out the generic bulbs that came with it for another $150 and the fixture was $350 so $500 total. Check it out let me know if you like it.

    Marlinman,

I do like the way your lights look. My only concern is the future cost of changing bulbs in 2 fixtures as aposed to 1. I need to do more research I guess.

    thanks

That will be fine then. If you change your mind let me know. I have my 8 original T5's (4 420mn Blue Actinics & 4 10K daylights) with one month on them I'm selling for $5 each.

I found some time tonight to prep the canopy for paint. I also added the crown molding. I am thinking about cutting some holes on each side of the canopy to add fans. I think I will get the tank up and running and see what the temps are before I do that.
