    Well, I'm a MH guy. MH's are simply the best performance IMO, but there are MANY benefits to other lights over MH. Like it was mentioned before though, T5's keep up to the MH's in terms of performance as long as you stay within a certain depth.

    Just because your PCs and VHOs are putting out more overall wattage, their penetration is fairly weak compared to MHs and T5s so you're not getting the appropriate lighting required to keep coral in probably the entire bottom half of your tank.

    no worries, we all have to learn at some point, how long have you been in the hobby?

    PAR = photosynthetic available radiation

    PUR = photosynthetic usable radiation

    its basically what the coralites get their food from.
