if it bothers you that much you could either make or get a ATO

yes, but the temperature will rise slightly, because evaperation is a way to disperse heat, also it depends how much air flow is across the T-8's for heat transfer.

Also, with a closed top and that small of a tank, you will want to watch for PH changes as the CO2 will not be able to escape from the water as well as if it was an open top. I strongly suggest you get an ATO as that much water lose in that small of a tank creates a constant change in the salinity. These are some of the major reason why small tanks are more challenging to keep.

I get the same thing for my puffers 20g I loose a lot of water quickly and a crazy amount of salt creep so I just top off with saltwater every day to keep the salanity up. Sounds like you may need to invest in an ATO system if you dont want to do top offs every day

The top does help, I dont on my 20g and 30g loose as much water due to evaporation with the aquariums hood... Indeed watch for PH, Salinity and Temp swings though. My room used to be so humid when I had the glass versa top on the 120g. However Removed that, It got super humid, then dropped to no humidity at all, I have to top off about 3 gallons a week now.

I have a 1.5g pico, 9"x9" cube. I have yet to make a decent topoff for it but In a 24 hour span it will lose about 1/4" of water.....but I have a top for it. It has a little plastic top that fills up with condensation within minutes. It blocks a little light, but keeps my salinity more stable. I currently have a makeshift ato using airline drip method.

I also have a 72g with a canopy and an open 20g sump. I top off 1 gallon per day. No ato on that one.

With an open top, your going to lose a crap load of water. With fans blowing at the water, your going to lose even more water. On my 72, I used to have glass tops and a covered sump and i only lost about 1/4 gallon per day. Now with open top, I'm going through water like crazy!
