I don't like the idea of glass tops, they are another thing to clean, they easily accumulate salt creep and condensation etc and block light and they also can inhibit gas exchange, especially if you don't have a sump.

I think if you have high evaporation on a tank the best solution is just to get an auto topoff system, it's worth it in the long run, stable salinity and less daily maintenance is best.

I think there are too many cons to glass tops- poor gas exchange, another thing to clean, less light gets through ect. The only pro is that there is less evaporation, and you can fix that with an auto top off system. If you get the auto top off system you eliminate all the cons of the glass top and fix the evaporation problem, so that's what I would do. Also make sure that if you get an auto top off system make sure the container for top off water is food rated or food safe if it's plastic, or you could get a cheap 10 gallon aquarium they sell them around me for $10 and that's cheaper than a food grade plastic container. Good luck!

I look at evaporation as a good thing. It cools the water and provides for better gas exchange at the surface.
Glass tops make good book shelves in my opinion, hang them on the wall or in a cabinet somewhere, anywhere but on the top of a tank.
My 16G evaporates 2.5 to 3 gallons a week and I just got in the habit of hitting the glass with a cleaning magnet, wiping the light fixture and front of the glass and adding water two or three times a week.
On my 100G I installed a Spectrapure UPLC II ATO system as adding 6 gallons every other day got real old.

If light is making it through, you have a skimmer and cleaning the glass isn't bothering you, then go ahead and leave it on. There are benefits to having it off, but in you may decide you would prefer to keep them on. Your choice.

For your 10 gallon you can make a simple topoff with airline tubing and a milk jug. Just tie a knot in the airline tubing and have it drip a drop every few seconds. Simple.
