Can you tell us what's wrong with the fish or provide a picture. Maybe someone can diagnose the problem.

If we cannot help, maybe contact Terry Bartelme Terry Bartelme - Aquarium Information or Frank Marini at Marine Depot.

If it turns out that it is suffering and cannot be saved, the most humane way to do the deal is to put it in a bag of tank water and then put it into the freezer. They just slowly go to sleep without any pain.

Sorry for your loss if it cannot be saved.

As he's under extreme stress, I dont think it's actually a good idea. High salt levels stress fish out and that treatment might just expedite his demise. If he's breathing heavily on the bottom and not eating, I say just pray that he get's better. It's really your best shot. QT him to avoid him dying in your reef and causing a spike in NH3/NH4.

Edited to remove a quote which contained what could have been harmful advice posted by an internet "troll." Sorry if rickzter's message does not make sense as a result. amcarrig

Well, he did pass away. I am pretty sure he had fin rot. And probably something else that I didn't know about. He was in a QT for almost a week, so he didn't die in the big tank. Thank god! That could have been even more of a mess. Thanks :)

Yeah, sorry for your loss. I've had pretty good luck with saltwater so far but I used to kill FW fish like it was my job. I always felt bad when they died, even when they were causing trouble in my tank.

You should of seen me when my first two flame hawks passed. I was near crying. They're expensive fish you know. My third one has been great though.

FYI, first one died of cucumber egg intoxication, second leaped out the tank and become a crispy chip.

Hey Purple Tang 511, where in MN do you live? I might be willing to give you my Purple Tang ( its about 6 inches ) if it doesnt stop pestering my Moorish Idol. I'm going to put the Tang in time out in my QT tank for a week and then back into my 120g. If it continues to bother the M. Idol then I"ll need to get rid of the tang.
