I've had a Kole Tang for about two weeks now and he's very shy. I've heard really good things about Kole's and every time I see them at a store they're all over the place. But mine seems to just stay put in a little cave and maneuver in between the rocks and never in the open water. I'm worried he's not eating cause I put some algae on a rock and put it at the opening and I'm pretty sure he didn't touch it.

Should I be concerned or give him more time?

if you are worried about him not eating is there anyway you can try to head feed him. or put him in a smaller area and section it off and almost force feed him.

i think 2weeks is a long time not to eat. giving him more time is like taking a chance.

idk if this helps i do not know to much about tangs. so sry

My Kole Tang took a few days to start eating algae sheets but he ate any algae in the tank first. I soaked some algae sheets in garlic and it got him interested. Definitely try soaking the food in garlic because it worked for me and I know it has worked for others. Is he showing any signs of ich?

I don't think so. He's hard to get a good view of to check for white spots but also doesn't seem to be scratching. I'm relatively new and never had issues with my yellow tang while I had it so I'm not entirely sure what ICH is. My other fish seem fine though

My kole tang took a few weeks to start being csocial. Just keep on what you are doing, maybe get a mag clip for kelp and place it close to his cave.

Upon first introduction to tanks Kole Tangs are often VERY reclusive.......Mine stayed hidden in the rocks for nearly a month before he started to come out. If you put out the algae sheets he will probably eat them when nobody is near the tank...Give him some time then he will probably start to come out a lot more ;)
