    Hey everyone,

I just joined this site...it looked really cool. Anyhow, I have a question I am hoping some of the knowledgeable people on here can answer for me. I currently have a 55 gallon tall reef tank. It is set up and has been for 4 years. It is in great shape, especially now that I have found out that due to the hard water, my dkh was way loooowwww. Therefore none of my zoos were growing. Luckily another forum member helped me out on saltwaterfish.com and now my tank is beautiful. Therefore, I have decided to upgrade my lighting to VHO 400 watts!!! I love sps corals and especially the way the Acropora and Montipora look in a tank. So here is my question.
Currently I have mostly mushrooms, zoos, a brain coral towards the bottom, along with some xenia etc etc. What SPS coral is the EASIEST to grow and will grow quickly so I can frag??? Also, I plan on putting them at the highest level of my tank for lighting. Also I will be upgrading my powerhead to achieve some more flow. Thanks and look forward to some responses!!!

mine grew fast and then all died.i never found the reason for sure.it could of been cause salinity meter was off,i used tap water,my mag and alk were low.i also had softies, lps, and sps all together, also i had a 55 gallon tank and it may not have been large enough to stay stable enough for sps.i fixed all the problems i had and they all died anyway.did away with sps and never looked back.i have less to worry about now.

SPS's take pristine water conditions. Do you keep a good check on your parameters?

to add to this, I will say for growth rate birdsnest is probably the fastest grower I have ever seen. You are going to need high flow, and very stable parameters. My sps tank is a 50 gallon and I have about 3000 gallons/hour flow and still think I need more. SPS are also very sensative to the chemicals that unhappy corals can give off like mushrooms, leathers, etc...... Hope this helps a bit

A Montipora Cap. would be a good start and a green staghorn acro at really tough and rather forgiving .

Any montipora will do well under that lighting. I had fabulous growth of a montipora digitata under 400 watts of VHO lighting over my old 90 gallon.
