I am currently in the process of upgrading from a 30 gal to a 55. The 55 has been cycling for 6 days now. (Yes I know, patience is the key! ) In my 30 gal tank i have:

Wolf Eel
Arrow Crab
Choc. Chip Starfish
4 hermits

My new tank setup is:
Marineland Magnum 350 canister filter
Penguin Biowheel 330
Skimmer (don't know what kind) brother in law gave to me
Aquaclear power head 50 (planning to get more and bigger)
90 lbs of Figi LR
(2) 48'' 32 watt All Glass Aquarium lights
(1) 48'' 40 watt Marine Glow light
Going to upgrade these lights to T5 or MH in future














And as you can see, there was dessert (wolf eel eggs) for the crabs!

Looks good, but with a skimmer and all that live rock you probably don't need to run the canister filter and the bio wheel. All your filtration should be able to be handled by the rock and skimmer.

 

So just run the skimmer? nothing else? By running the canister wouldn't it just clean the water faster?

 

Skimmer and powerheads should do it. I might keep the canister filter for your carbon and phosphate remover media though... Looks great!
