I bought a used 55 gal reef set up and I'm in the process of setting it up . It came with 4 - 110 watt VHO bulbs in the canopy with two ballast . I plan on buying new bulbs and was wondering what kind would be best . There are two white and two blue looking bulbs in it now . Will this lighting set up limit my choices of livestock ? Should I be working some overtime for new lighting ? Thanks for the help !

Need to know what type of reef you plan on keeping. I use VHO's as my actinic's and run URI Super Actinic 420nm bulbs and love them. This is what I use for my blue spectrum but I use 400w MH's for my daytime light.
If you was to add a couple MH's to the canopy then you would run 4 super actinic's in the fixture you have.
    Just my $.02

Not sure yet ? I plan on starting out with the easy stuff to get my feet wet with a reef ! I had a 65 gallon fish only salt water tank and a couple of cichlid tanks a few years back but had to sell all my stuff after the divorce so I'm starting over . The four 48" bulbs take up the hole canopy not much room in a 55 gallon .
