Yeah they make VHO setups just like the pc's. Go with the VHO's, a decent setup will let you keep anything you can think of with very few exceptions. I love halides but if not I would use VHO's, and will on my bigger tank, one day.

I just read a post by Covey that broke it down. VHO's are T-12's (very ineffecient). I don't recommend either. I would look into T5's. If you really don't want T5's go with whatever is cheaper and more effecient.

You would be better off better off just using the next generation of the old T 5 called the T 6 its sealed under higher pressure then the T 5's and are a better phosphorus combination and mixture for 50/50 or actinic white and also the 03 then T.5's and they have a stronger PAR value Not to mention wattage rating for those who use the watt per gallon rules . Then the T-5 and guess what they have a standard pin base that will allow you to insert a bushing and us them on the same VHO and NO ballast that the T12 and T 8 use :) T 5's are nothing new been used for display cases for jewelry case to meat cases for a long time as they where smaller and easier to hide. Then they add aquarium use and cha ching. Any of you ever used or tested a T 6 ? Its always used in a commercial application long before it trickles on down to the hobby levels Like NASA Scanners medical and specialty applications it never starts in a hobby to much money invested to develop the technology :) They just change the lamps gases to improve the applications To make to car look shiner the meat more read the diamond more colorful more light for less space in the space station on in a MRI or the old shipping bay at a factory, fish and corals where the last think on their minds LOL And with the T 6 you don't need to retro fit every fixture :)

Opp's almost forgot the old tanning beds :)

I just got off the Phone with my sales Rep getting some materials together and they are on top of their game when it comes to ne lighting technology thats what they do. He just sent me some info on a brand new type of lighting that will be the next great aquarium lighting system as soon as the Park avenue advertising people get in contact with all the hobby suppliers and then they will have you thinking they developed it LOL just for the aquarium /reptile plants hobby trades . They will tweak the phosphors to suit the reef tank C&P

Would that be able to compete with metal halides for growing sps?
This probably isn't the thread for it, but I don't have a definitive answer as to whether T5 HO is as good for sps as MH. Anybody know?
