Vho = pink?!!!!

So I just hooked up my icecap 660 ballast to my retro vho setup.
I put in two aquasun 10k's and 2 super actinic uvi bulbs from marine depot.

My tank looks PINK! I kid you not. Any algae problems I have -- GONE! Or that's what the color would show. In fact, I have a heck of a lot more corraline algae than I ever knew.

Now, previously I was running 216watts of t5ho lighting with a mix of white with actinic. That looked powerful and natural... but didn't really bring out the corraline or the corals.

So, I tried combining the two systems... using all 4 t5's in the back of my 72 gallon bowfront ... and putting just two vho bulbs in the front (white and actinic) This looked a lot better... but still had a pink tone.

I have since ordered from marine depot 2 super actinic white bulbs.
Does anyone know if they will correct the colors?

Do you think I should keep the t5 system before I sell it ... just in case the colors don't get corrected... or do you think the aquasun bulbs just suck... OR MAYBE ... I only use one of them... 2 blue's and 1 super white..

i had the same thing with my vhos. all the corals were doing great but it looked like crap. how many watts of vhos do you have? you could try different vho bulbs but mine never changed much maybe got alittle purple.

do you think the super white will be better than the aquasun?
or keep my t5's and run both?

 

If you don't know ask you never ever ever use a bulb with the word sun in it you should have used the actanic whites with and the super actinic and 50/50 mix of those two. 2 A/W and 2 S/A bulbs are the perfect mixture of the URI VHO's

 

I agree 100% with Tangster. Have you had a chance to try out the 14000k-75/25 UVL vho yet. I just ordered 2 new UVL t-10 twist bulbs Act. white and was thinking of ordering a 14000k bulb to go along with a super act. bulb.
