Would I be down grading if I went to a 4 bulb vho 96watt per bulb fixture from a t5 4 bulb fixture? Is it worth it? Here is pics Guy wants 140 for everything ..

For $140 I would try it. no matter what I always seem to be buying or in need of a fixture.

^ agree with that. not sure if it would be better or worse than t5, but you could always use it if you decide to set up another reef or frag tank

Yes you would be downgrading, I'd keep the t5's

Yes, of course. VHO is old tech. They are power hungry, have less output than T-5s and less bulb options. More expensive bulbs and shorter bulb life. I am not sure why you would want to try that? The only reason people still use them is for MH supplementation. The produce nice, diffuse actinic light.

Definately not...There is a reason you don't see them on tanks anymore besides to supplement halides.

There is only one VHO bulb that seems to outperform t5HO and that's Pure actinic.
That's why so many still use them as supplementation. They produce a better low end spectrum in that bulb. Past that t5ho is better in every way.

Thanks for all the replies. Kinda what i thought but wasnt to sure since i never even herd of this style bulb till a few days ago lol.

well let me fill you in on the entire story.. i bought these leds http://www.starkled.com/starkled-100w-led-aquarium-light-1.html it was an impulse buy and didnt do much research before buying them. im kinda worried about how well they will support my tank. not running anything to crazy mainly soft corals. my local coral guy has offered to take them from me in trade for that vho set up and an ro di system filters brand new along with a few corals.. I didnt pay the price listed i paid 300 for both fixtures. My other option is to try and sell these out rite and have reefwerks put together a led system for me.. what would you guys do?
