via aqua skimmer

Geoxman, all I did to the RP was use a larger pump and it works great. I have to empty the cup every 3-4 days. Even AquaC will tell you that you can use larger pumps. I'm not saying its great skimmer, but I think it does the job although there are much better skimmers available. I just like the set and forget function of the skimmer.

I am going to go buy this skimmer just to see for myself if it does what the thread claims. I am giving up on the RP! I like black/dark skim and I am not getting it with the RP. I will let everyone know the results

 

Skimmer is in and it took 48 hrs to break in(start skimming). It is made out of cheaper plastic(what do you expect for 90$) and has a monster of a skim cup 9" in daimeter and 5 inches deep, the reaction chamber is 9" also, powered by a via aqua 2600(wonder how a needle wheel would work??). It is very easy to adjust and has not been bothered by the 1/2-1 inch drop or gain in my sump per day. The directions say the water level should be between 5.5 to 9.5 inches, mine is at 8. The directions that came with it were very thourough, if you are a newbie and don't know much about skimmers, it will be easy to follow. I am getting a very thick rich foam and the skim is dark, unlike the RP. I have tried many many skimmers over the years and this one is working extremley well! If someone is looking for a really good economical skimmer and they have the room 14.5X9.5 this would be an excellent choice-as it was stated in the email to me from 02manyfish. If someone could tell me how to post pics I would gladly post them on Sat or Sun, I have to borrow a better camera. So far I have about 1 inch of black/green gunk in the bottom of the cup and it has only been "skimming" for about 15hrs. Aquauc for sale! Fire away
