NOT a vinegar expert, read alot and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Why the factor of 8? you have a 55g.

And yes, plain, generic white vinegar.

Are you testing your nitrates and phosphates?, etc. I didn't see you mention that.

Also, what does your 'refugium' consist of?

How often and what % are you water changing? etc. Sorry if you've already answered that.

nitrates and phosphates are 0 but I have hair algae all over my tank so there probubly consuming it causing the tests to read 0, I dont do water changes I just top off with fresh water and make sure salinity and ph stay in the correct range, The reason behind factor of 8 is on that link it says its for alchohol and acetic acid to get the correct ratio vinegar doses need to be multiplied by 8 to match the alchohol dose concentration. However I dont think I am going to use that chart I will just use the amounts previosly mentioned in the thread by daniel 072 however since I have a 55g I will do 1/3 of the amounts he used for his 160 g

Don't take this the wrong way, but with only running a skimmer for filtration, and no water changes, it is not surprising you are having HA issues :/

Hope carbon dosing does help you though.

You probably won't see a bacteria bloom...if its visible, you are overdosing vinegar or underskimming. I would gradually I crease weekly until you start to see the ha slow down.
