I'm sure it's not a HUGE deal but my blue legged hermit crabs have been eating my snails as of late. Anyone know why this maybe be happening? I've been looking into purchasing a CuC from blue zoo aquatics but the one I'm looking at will add 44 hermit crabs to my tank and I don't want them to be eating all my snails.

Put plenty of empty shells in the tank and you'll see a big reduction of this. Much of time they do this for the shell, not the snack.

So I should be leaving the empty shells of the dead snails in the tank then?

absolutely agree on adding some empty shells, you can get them from www.reefcleaners.org for cheap & get more snails while you're there, John @ reefcleaners is the absolute best place to get a CUC from, you cannot go wrong ordering from him!

& yes leave the empty shells

I did not know this. I wonder why? Guess I'll have to boil the next set of empty shells I get.

i think im the only person that stays away from hermits. i think they are the devil. very opportunistic. like he said, if they see a shell and they want it, they will have to problem evicting the snail that it belongs to. plus there is a snail for everything that hermit can do.

+1 on the "looking for a bigger home" fact. Mine did exactly the same and added some empty shells (my LFS gives them away for free). I didn't know about the boiling though... and that may explain why they were empty for so long.
