Do you dose vinegar the same way you would dose Vodka?

Great question, I was just referring to what Steve said before me. He said he had switched to vinegar from Vodka.

personal experience and things to be aware of

start slow, follow the plan , a little is good, to much to soon is bad

    potential issues
Carbon sources are not biased towards being beneficial to any specific bacteria species, and as such they can just as likely increase strains of bacteria such as cyno, that you do not want
you can also experience stringy bacterial masses or a white bacteria that looks like peach fuzz , these are not terrrible but they are not aesthetically pleasing and defeat the purpose of the carbon dosing, we do it as we want nice clean looking reef tanks
an overdose of vodka can result in reduced oxygen levels

certain corals prefer more nutrients in the water and vodka dosing increasing bacteria, can strip the water to cleanly for those corals and they do not appreciate it ( some LPS in my set up did not look as good after a period of vodka dosing)

even corals of the SPS variety can start to lose colour, become pale if you strip the water to cleanly of nutrients, so be prepared to feed your corals should they look to be fading

if you do experience cyno, then reducing the amount of vodka your using can help, combined with manual removal, increased flow and other general remedies for that problem

    Nb
it is now believed by many people in the hobby that Acetate which is the carbon source in Vinegar is less likely to be a good fuel source for Cyno as opposed to Ethanol, the carbon source in Vodka
which is one of the reasons I moved from Vodka to vinegar and have not regretted doing so

method is the same - amount is greater
Vodka (40% proof) is 40% Ethanol by volume
Vinegar - is 5% Acetate by volume
so for every 1 mil of Vodka you would use 8 mils of vinegar

once you start increasing the dose following the plan, then there is more of a need to spread the dose out with vinegar due to its effect on PH
but other than that it is the same deal but a different ingredient
