    Hello
I have a 75g tank. Can I dose vodka? I'm thinking of getting Proof 80 Vodka from Costco for $20. My skimmer is a AquaC HOB w maxijet 1200. I also have 2 powerheads pointing at the top of the tank.

There are two things that are a must for vodka dosing.... A very good skimmer, and water changes.

I had a Remora C with MJ1200, and I am not sure if I would try it with that skimmer. It works very well, but not fantastically. Hopefully, someone can chime in who has done vodka dosing and owned a Remora.

Well, I have a 29g with Hob Prizm. I do VSV (Vodka Sugar Vinegar). You gotta be very careful with that. I almost crushed my tank first time cuz of OD (bacteria bloom). I kept my skimmer on 24hrs and made 30% wc. So now I just dose 1ml of VSV solution per day, love the results!

you don't wanna get caught with it, the penalties are usually harsh in this no tolerance world.

How old is your tank? What are your nitrate and phosphate levels? What are your means for wanting to dose vodka?

Mainly vodka dosing is implemented on an older tank, where phosphate levels are impossible to reduce and the tank is extremely stable. I have been dosing for a month now and the results are interesting... my nitrates have lowered but aren't very stable. Unless you are in a situation like this I would recommend against vodka dosing. If you were to dose though, you can get cheap plastic handles for 10 bucks... but due to the doses being so low it would take years to go through a whole bottle.

Regardless, I would recommend against it unless you have an old established tank that has phosphate issues.

10 months old. My nitrates are at 5ppm. Phosphate, idk. I want to dose vodka to reduce my phosphate because I see GHA starting to grow. Also, my tank is slightly overstocked, so I have to feed a lot.
4 chromis, 1 mccosker flasher wrasse, 1 neon goby, 1 yellow watchman, 2 orange clownfish, 1 scooter blenny(eating NLS), 1 red eyed cardinal, 1 yellow tang and 1 hippo tang.
Can I dose distilled vinegar instead of vodka?

Bk" but dad its for my tank!"
