Vodka

Well I did the first dosing of vodka today. Never done this before so hope I don't have an epic fail.

 

under estimate...to be safe make sure u do all ur reading up! My tank is up to just under 4ml a night! My reef is an alcoholic!

 

Well I have a 56 dt and a 15 sump. So I did a 30% displacement for my rock and stuff. I took 5 ml doser, it has 4 hashes before it gets to the 1ml. I used the first hash mark is thst okay or do I do more

 

there is an article that explains exactly how much to dose per gallons of water...do a google search and do exactly as it says

 

I dosed with vodka and had pretty good results. Search around on here and you will find the thread with a good link.

 

I vodka dose daily but my tank does not get a drop. I chose bio pellets and have great results. never had vodka in my tank just in front of it. try the pellets for carbon dosing.

the guide being mentioned above is this one

depending on strenght of vodka being used ( 20%, 40% etc)
you want 0.1ml per 25 gallons on day 1,2 and 3
you want 0.2 ml per 25 gallon on days 4,5,6,7
and then you add 0.5ml (irrespective of tank size) each week

things to monitor

coral coloration - if the corals fade in colour- reduce or stop Vodka dosing
cyno - carbons do not care which bacteria utilises them - if you have cyno, your cyno will increase possibly - treat the cyno in the normal manner, syphon, increase flow etc but do not increase the dosing of Vodka until you have combated the cyno ( more vodka just makes it worse.
Peach fuzz - white hair/ beard growth on rocks, and equipment - reduce Vodka dosing or stop until this has cleared up

if you miss a day - no problem - do not dose twice the day after to compensate
do not go faster than the above guidelines indicate
dont be afraid to stop on the same level for longer than 1 week
if you feel / see the benefits after week 3 dosing at 1.6ml for example - continue to dose at that rate

watch your algaes , receding algae is a positive sign that your system is moving away from an algae based nutrient processing system, towards a bacteria dominated nutrient removal system

I do VSV (vodka/Vinegar/Sugar 1:1:2) 2ml daily for my 28g (20gal of water volume). Really good results

 

Well I use grey goose. I have been reading and they say to use .1mls for the first 2-3days. I am using a salifert doser what is a .1ml on those

I use a cleaned syringe from a Salifert test kit
these ones are have marking up to 1ml and each 0.1ml is the thick lines
so they are marked 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 etc up to 1ml

so on those 0.1ml is the 1st solid line ( each solid line is also divided by 10 thinner lines)

get a picture up of your doser - macro , and we can see if we can work out 0.1ml on it
