I dont have a problem with the noise from my vortech mp20 because it's really quiet in my room. But i have the parents constantly bugging me saying how loud the vortech is. We are able to hear it downstairs in the dinning room which is underneath my room and in the room next to mine.

It has to be the motor because we can hear it change speeds. Is there any way to quiet down the powerhead so my parents will stop bugging me about it. And it for sure is the powerhead making the noise, i had turned off all of the other euipment to see what was making the noise and it was deffiently the vortech

so if anybody has any ideas please let me know :)

    Ear plugs for your parents?

I had similar problem with a Seio wavemaker all the others where OK but this one seemed to be noisier than the others

basically like a ticking clock, eventually you stop noticing it IME
(which partly explains why I was late for work Friday)

Set it to a constant speed and slowly adjust the dry side until it as quiet as its going to get. also, do you have it on full blast? My MP10 is very quiet at 50-60% on short pulse but when on reefcrest at 75% I can kinda hear it spooling up and down. Did you get and/or are you using the rubber spacer?

This is still an issue with the vortechs. It bothers me as well, but not everyone hears it.

My tunze has a light sensor and a night-time mode where it goes to one speed. Does the Vortech have that?

You can set the time for it to go to night mode. Good idea. Maybe set it on reef crest starting early morning to when everyone gets home. Then have it switch to night mode (50% constant power) until everyone goes to bed. Or maybe even just have it go to night mode during the time that people will be in the dining room.

That's weird. My MP40 is silent. I had heard this complaint before I bought mine, but honestly mine is silent. Did you make sure it's set for the thickness of your glass? Did you use the rubber spacer? Is it lined up perfectly? In the manual it says it may make noise if the two sides aren't perfectly aligned.

    hahaha that could work

hopefully they will get used to it, ive had it since Christmas and they've been complaining since then

thats a good idea, maybe its just a matter of playing around with it.

i've got mine running on reef crest full blast, for a while little while i had it running on lagoon mode at 50% and they still heard it. And yea im using the spacer

that could also as well ill try that too

yea mine is set for the correct thickness aand its perfectly lined up but still makes the noise

Mine are silent. I can't hear them during the day or night, on any mode, anywhere in the house. If I am right up on them I can hear them ramp up and down, but you have to be right next to the pump. With them on the back side of the tank I can stand in front or on the side and can't hear them.
