Been thinking about upgrading some of my equipment for awhile, mainly powerheads and lights. Tank is almsot a year old and I spent the first year buying livestock, corals, and test kits. Figured its best to put some money where it matters most this year and purchase some quality equipment that will be able to be used on my future upgrade as well.

Right now I have a koralia 750 and 2 koralia nano 425s on my 46bow. Really want to upgrade since there is ZERO undertow and the sand always ends up a little dirty looking. Even the rocks seem to get a lot of detritus build up even if the PH is pointed right at them! Worked a lot of overtime so have some extra cash and I want to get an mP10 to replace one of the 425s. I hope its worth it because the price difference is like $200!!!

I will probably get more in the future if I really like it but understand the wireless model is only really worth it if you have multiple? Do they have the same controller and modes regardless where I should get the base model and upgrade in the wireless as I add more? Seems to be aabout a $50 difference which is the price of the upgraded kit. Also when I upgrade tanks will an mP10 really do anything for say a 75-125gal tank or would it be useless?

My personal opinion from owning two MP10s on 55g for 2 years now is that they are great as long as you don't turn them up more than 65% or they get loud.

Two mp10s working against each other is where the real benefits are if you ask me.

I have no noise issues running MP10's at 100%. MP40's are always the ones that get the knock on noise. But yes, you really need 2 to get the full benefit of Vortech's.

I want more down the road but was going to start with one. The only I don't like is you can't swivel them to direct flow but I guess their push and undertow are so good you don't have to worry about directing it?
I don't like stuff on the side walls so plan on keeping it all on the rear wall so they wouldn't really work against each other anyway. I want them in the back corners pointing towards rock and open water . Would it be a waste of cash to get them with that plan in mind?

I think the main reason you should get an MP10/ or two/ or vortech pumps in general is the ability to use them with the Vortech Battery Backup. The backup works with all vortech pumps and ecotech radions.

The battery backup, like the product says, is reef insurance encased in aluminum. It can keep an MP10 running for 72 hours. Which is a VERY VERY good investment as you never know when power is going to go down. No other brand has anything similar.

Worth its weight in gold, considering how much money people spend on coral and fish stock. My stock alone in a 55g would have to be approaching a few $1000.

I have to dissagree, you pay a LOT for the convienance of it so you can backup vortech products but a generater is much more practical IMO. Company makes some good products but man are they pricey!!!

    Most generators are pricey! :p.

No-one said this hobby is cheap. But realistically:

    1. vortech pumps are extremely space-saving, having a wetside and dry side using magnetic force to power the pump, what other powerhead can do that?
    2. What other pumps are wireless so you can sync them without using a controller?
    3. What other pumps allow you to back them up with a small box compared to a big generator?

You get what you pay for IMO. I cant wait till I can afford another MP10 have them syncing together.

If I understand you correctly, you simply can't use them in that manner.

Vortech's have a different design philosophy; they don't direct flow, they broadcast flow. If you don't have an open area to put them into, away from other glass panes, rocks, etc, the performance will severely suffer.

Might I suggest taking a look at the manual? Placement is discussed: http://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/FULLMANUAL_Revision1.21.pdf

I can not agree more with point number 1 and 2, that is the reason I want them so bad!! The most important thing with power outages is heat as heaters take so much electric, flow can be provided with a simply $100 battery backup from bestbuy or a D sized battery operated bubbler.

So if I placed it in the back corner at rock it would be useless, but if it was toward open water and the front glass panel 12-15inches away it would become beneficial?
