So today I ordered my 1st MP40es. I currently run a Digital Aquatics RKL with temp, ORP, ph monitoring. I realize there is no "offical" support on how to use the two in conjunction with one another, but my bet is there has to be a way to get it all working in harmony. I really don't understand the reefkeeper as it is, since most of the stuff seems rather worthless and I severely regret the purchase. Someone shed some light on its uses that maybe I'm not using it for?

Anyone have any suggestions for making this stuff work decent together? Should I just run them independent of one another?

    Thanks!

Are these the newer models(2nd generation), you bought? I know the new ones each have their own "controller." I would put the two pumps in anti-sync. One can be the master unit, the other the slave unit.

Its only 1 pump, sorry if I was unclear. And yes it is the newest model with the ecosmart drivers, I'm more concerned with getting it to play nice with my Reefkeeper lite, as only Neptune controllers are "offically" supported.

I am not sure what you are trying to do? The MP40 has it's own controller, so, there is really no need to use the RKL to control it. The options in the MP40s controller are much more sophisticated than the RKL wavemaker settings for example. If you had another pump, you could control that with the RKL wavemaker function. This could help add more random flow, but the two wouldn't communicate.

The Neptune controller has a module that can control the MP40, but really somewhat limited use in most applications. It is helpful if you want to control more pumps than can be controlled with the MP40 controller, or if you want to change the settings throughout the day. If you wanted to do something like change the flow, throughout the day with the RKL, I think the only way to do this would be to use a different pump, in addition to the MP40.

I had planned on using 2 other Koralia 1050s in there on the other side of the MP40 and running them off the RKL, so it seems they will just have to be independent of the MP40. I appreciate you explaining it to me.

    Thanks!

Yeah I think it will have to be independently. Although, I think that's fine if you want random flow since if it's coordinated, it isn't really very random is it  Anyways, I'm a big fan of random flow myself, so I think this will work well actually :)

Yeah that makes sense, I guess when I bought the reefkeeper I just expected it to do all kinds of cool things, that really it doesn't unless you buy every module they make.. and use only their products.

    Thanks again.

Your welcome :) I like toys too and wish they did more as well BTW ;) You'll probably find more uses for at as your system expands though.

I have a vortec MP20 and a reef-keeper. I love both. The vortec gives me great random flow and the reef-keeper lets me control a Koralia so that it also provides some randomness (and a night mode). I also use the reef-keeper to control my heater so that I have a backup if the internal control on the heater goes nuts. I've used it to control lights, but I've since replaced my lights with AI Sol's that control themselves. I wouldn't run a tank without both.
