I had also the same problem with aiptasia. I tried the Peppermint shrimp, but what happened is what was described above: little bugger will hide until he dies.

THEN!... I come to find out that there are more than one species of peppermint shrimps and some of them, generally the most widely distributed in LFS's are the wrong kind.
When you buy a Peppermint Shrimp to get rid of your aiptasia, make sure you buy the Lysmata Wurdemanni species and NOT the Lysmata Caifornica and Rhynchocinetes Durbanensis. I read an article that states the last two species are way less interested in aiptasia.

Another thing that worked very well for me, is "Aiptasia-X" Although, you need to make sure to siphon the dead aiptasia out, 15 ot 30 minutes after application. Otherwise, they will come back

    Good luck!!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it is better if you turn your pumps or water moving equipment before you apply Aiptasia-X, and re-start them after you had vacuumed the dead Aiptasia.

The Rhynchocinetes species isn't a "peppermint shrimp" at all. It's a "camel shrimp". They're somewhat easy to confuse because they look very similar.

So what happens if you see the peppermints eating your good coral. How can you stop them? It's pretty difficult to get anything out once it goes in!

I have used Aiptasia X also and it worked very well. The first time i used it the aiptasia came back but after the second time it went away for good. I think sometimes it may take two applications to get rid of it but well better then 100 of lemon juice and other such methods. Plus i think its a good thing to have as a precaution when the little buggers pop up out of no where :p

i have to say that i have never seen a peppermint eat my corals before and i have all kinds of softies and a few lps. I definitely hated the thing though because it had some serious dominance issues. I look in the tank and it would start thrusting towards me and would get aggressive towards my fish. craziest little terrorizer then finally one day i think it tried to get me in my sleep cuz my tank is in my bedroom and i found it dead on the floor halfway to my bed. i think it knew i hated it hahaha

Wow, i can't believe it jumped out and was attacking you! I used to have some crawfish in a freshwater tank that were notorious for getting out. I'd find them all over the house.
