I have a hippo tang and a blue damsel in my tank right now and I wanted to add another tang, do any of you have suggestions besides a yellow tang?

kole tangs, nubulis tangs.. those are some of the smallest ones.. in a 75 i wouldnt put a hippo in it... i would prolly go with a kole tang...they are great at cleaning the tank..

    +1 on above

the hippo will outgrow a 75 relatively quickly
the Kole Tang or a Tommini Tang would be a better option for a single Tang in a 4ft tank IME

I love my tomini tang. I think it would be great for a 75 gallon

a 75 is too small for 2 tangs no matter the species. for a 75 its a one tang max and thats only certain species. and not the particular species you have. hippost probably at least an 80-90 gallon tank minimum. lost the hippo and add a yellow or similar species

    Naso tangs are the best.

I dont see a difference between a 75 and a 90. its 4 inches taller. you really think the extra 4 inches will make the tang happier

Agreed, Its the length and the depth that matters, as well as the Settup of the rock. For those with a giant wall, It Kills the swimming room, rather then with island and caves. Tangs like to swim yes. But If you give them options to swim around and such It Keeps them active and healthy. I would hate to swim in a line all day long :(.

the biggest issue I have with the gallonage system is

people with 4ft - 90 gallons - OK they believe certain tang species are OK
Thus people with 4ft- 75 gallons, believe its only a few inches narrower so if its good in a 90 it must be OK in mine
people see that and they believe 4ft long 55s are also fine for a tang as its 4ft long
then someone else sees that and thinks "My 40 inch tank is only 8 inches off a 4ft, surely that will not make a difference"
and then someone else sees that, and they end up with a hippo in their 3ft as after all its only 8 inches smaller than the 40 inch aquarium

    its a slippery slope IMHO

    my tank is a 5ft x 20 x 20 and is a Tang free zone
there are still plenty of suitable choices on fish for me
and I have decided not to let my desire to own and look at something, overide what I believe to be in the best interest of the fish
