Want to change sand-put wrong sand in tank

    Man those nitrates are high.. can we rule out test kit problems? What brand do you use? Did you take any water to your fish store to verify?

    i used a combination of silica based play sand and aragonite and have never seen any diatoms at all

    :-/ I removed about 50% of the CC, so about 50% is still in there. There is some that the hermits digg up in the front and there is still a bunch toward the back of the tank behind and under the live rock. This may be my problem. I cannot siphon the back of the tank without disturbing the LR setup. But, if I must move the LR, I might as well take out the CC. But won't this stress the fish and corals?
