so i want to clean my bioballs a little at a time. Ive read that rinsing them is ok but not to scrub them. Ive also read that doing this every couple of months is a good idea. Here is my question...........
How do you just clean 1/3 of them at one time? should i take them all out at once and place the newely cleaned ones in first, when placing them back in the chamber? Im a little confused at how to do this efficiently? Will this cause any spikes or cycle??:-/

You can rinse them out in some tank water, or some RO/DI water and it shouldn't kill any of the bacteria. It just when you replace them you have to do a little at a time. I rinse all of my bio media at once in tank water, and have never had any spikes or problems.

I agree rinse them all at once in tank water. Just put them in a bucket and swish them around to get all the detritus off.

If you do it after, you can rinse them off in the water you take out of the tank, then discard.
