I have my parameters going pretty well and steady but it seems like I am constantly dosing. Right now I am at Calc...440, Dkh...10 and Mag...1450. Ph is about 8.2... So I want to maybe dose Kalkwasser and I have an ATO which I have hooked up to a 5 gallon reservoir. So can I just measure out the Kalk into the 5 gallons on RO water and be done with it? My ATO is a DIY with a Toms aqualifter dosing pump. I probably use a gallon a day of top off water

    Hi ncinter

I have read that you can only get about 1.5 ounces of Kalk to dissolve in 1 litre of water
any more just becomes that sediment or crust

1 gallon is 4 litres US so 6 ounces per gallon should do it

Just be aware that your evaporation rates may change with the humidity/temperature changes with the seasons. Because coral growth doesn't tie into the evaporation rate of the tank I've decided that I don't want to deal with that method of dosing. Some people do fine with it and have great tanks using that method but I just don't want to deal with it.

I think that it might be a better solution for low consumption tanks, not a lot of SPS etc, if you are planning a lot of SPS and LPS you might need to be more concerned with it.

    My 2c anyway :)

I ran into the same problem a couple months ago. Dosing was becoming a real pain. I took the plunge and it has turn out to work really good. It has made keeping my parameters at bay much easier. Screwtape helped a lot with the many questions I had.

Check out my thread here Kalkwasser info . It'll answer a lot of questions you might have.
