High flow rates aren't the only reason to do a bean. Its 100% silent compared to other overflows. And it has great backups implemented. And there's not alot of fine tuning involved. Mine has been running for 2 years and i rarely do anything to it. It always restarts itself after a power outage or water change, and it runs smooth and quiet with no sucking or gurgling sounds.

don't get me wrong, I'd do a bean on a 2.5g if i could, but it's overkill and unnecessary. Matter of fact I'd probably still run one on my 40/40 setup I'm working on, but I got a killer deal on one with the gh 700gph already on it. (much thanks to that guy btw) I've tried it out already mocked up, and it's very silent.

You are also correct that there isn't a ton of fine tuning, but the work involved in setting up a tank for a bean is time consuming, as well as costly due to the added plumbing.

well when i get my 100+ tank i will probably go with a bean but like said before on something smaller than 55 it might be overkill and just easier to get a GH kit
