    Hi everybody,
I started my 120 gallons tank in february and I keep reading about algea stage but don't really have much more info than that.

A few weeks after starting cycling I started having brown algea and that went away and now I am having a major cyano outbreak. My tank was filled with tap water but now I have a RO/DI unit and has been doing 15 gallon water change every week for 2 weeks and it keeps getting worst. I cut back on feeding also. Is this a normal thing happening or I am doing something wrong.

I would also like to know more about what other algea outbreak I may have.

    Thanks for all the info

do you have a sump/fuge? It will help minimize the outbreaks. the cyano will form in lower flow areas, increasing the flow will help break it up. I use a slotted cooking spoon ($1.99 @ the supermarket) to scoop it off the sand bed and a turkey baster will help blow it off the rocks.
Your doing the right things at this point and this is one of the worst looking outbreaks you'll usually encounter in the first year.
I really recommend the sump/fuge if you don't have one, mine has been offline for repairs for the last 2 weeks and there is a major difference in my tank already :(

When I had a cyano outbreak it took a month or so for it go away, while the whole time I was taking steps to eradicate it. So I think it just takes awhile to disappear. Good luck!
