Is this a new tank or one that has been set up for a while? Can you give us a few more details about what's already in the tank?

OK, if you want to add more rock and sand, you could buy "dead" rock and sand and add it. That way, it won't cause your tank to cycle as live rock and sand would. As for adding more animals, I wouldn't do that yet. Your tank is still young and may still be cycling. If you add more fish, your levels might rise to high and kill your fish/shrimp. Test your water for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate to figure out where you are in your cycle, assuming you haven't completed your cycle yet.

    would dry rock become live?

    ph 8.2
    ammonia 0
    nitrate 0
    nitrite .25

    still new to this so...
how frequent do i have to change the water?
what do i need to do on a daily basis to run a reef tank?
how often should you add water?

Yes, dry rock will become live rock over time (it does not take that long).
    1) I change my water weekly - 10%, this way you should not have to add a lot of additives.
    2) You do not need to do much daily (other then adding water) but you will need to do several things weekly:
Ensure all equipment is working correctly (power heads, protein skimmers, lights). Clean lights so they work at max efficiency, if you have any sponges in tank I would clean weekly when you do water changes. I would also test your water (at least the primary tests - PH, SG, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite).
    3) Add RO/DI water as needed. Water loss depends on a lot of variables so you will need to add fresh water as evaporation occurs. Depending on size this will vary greatly: my 30 gallon requires about .5 - 1.5 gallons a week, while my friends 75 gallon can take 3-6. I have an ato on my tank and it is great! JBJ Automatic Top Off (A.T.O.) System Water Level Controller

    4) For reef make sure you have appropriate lighting

    Good luck!

yes base rock over time will become alive. the bacterias will start to cultivate on it. as far as adding top off water , no salt added , that all depends on your evaporation rate. everyones is different. i add 5 gallons every 2 days or so.

you had mentioned earlier you werent sure if you were cycled or not. and i see you have a nitrite reading and not a nitrate. high nitrates usually come after a nitrite reading. how long have you been cycling\running?

as far as a daily basis, every 2 days you might need to clean the inside glass, and do top offs. in the early stages, you will want to keep your water tests going weekly. and other tank maintenance in regards to filters and such

a weekly water change of between 5 and 10% can be a good habit to get into. and as time goes by , you wil lget a better feel to what your tank needs and how it reacts. hope ive helped

my tank has been running close to two months add a few fishes which ended up dieing and only two has survive blue green chromie (two weeks in the tank) and 3 striped damselfish
you guys are more then helpful thanks for all the info

the freshwater no added salt to keep the SG balence needs a power head in it at all times

i have a 75 gallon tank going to buy a auto top off switch asap (should i put it in the sump or tank it self?)

so doing water changes every week will also help coralline growth? no need for additives (but why not)?

for the ro/di system all i need is a auto shut off (all ready have) and a float valve correct? to make the water stop

This is what I do for my ATO:

    1) 5 Gallon bucket filled with half way with RO/DI.
    2) Drill hole in middle of bucket cover.
    3) Use RIO 800 pump with tube attached to bring RO/DI water to sump (throught the hole you drilled in bucket cover)
    4) Install sensor in the Sump tank so when it reaches the desired level it turns on the RIO 800 until the water level achieves the fill point (where your sensor is).

JBJ Automatic Top Off (A.T.O.) System Water Level Controller

    Coralline Growth:
If you do weekly water changes it takes harmful bacteria out of the tank and as you fill it back up with new salt water it replensihes mineral that corals use. If you want to really set off your coralline I recommend Fiji Gold

Fiji Gold Coral & Live Rock Food 20oz

    Good luck!

Yes, I don't know why people buy live rock to begin with. You're starting out with pests already(and it's expensive)... now it will be a battle to get rid of it.
If it was me and this is just me.. I would take it all out nuke it silly with bleach and then neutralize with baking soda. Then restart the cycle.
(If you didn't already have fish that is.)

But if it's a very minor spot of aiptasia that you can kill easily just add more dead rock if you wish. Or take out that single rock with the aiptaisia and soak it in bleach for a few days.
Your tank is not ready for fish until the Nitrite is 0. And then if you're adding rock I would still wait a little while (2-3 weeks) to see if it stabilized after adding new rock.
