as stated above, for that size tank, IMO 2 part is much easier. I use seachem reef alk and calcium in my 28g. I also dose kalk in this system as my load in this tank is through the roof as far as SPS and LPS corals.

You want to remember you are going to see a slow increase in the kh as you are dosing. you do not want it to rise up very fast, as that can do more damage to the corals. When you start dosing, i would recommend testing every couple days (in my case i test daily) until you can get consistent readings and you have a set schedule.

I would also suggest you purchase a mag test kit. Your mg, calcium and alk affects each other......if one is down the other can be down. Also if your mag is down, you will have a harder time to raise/keep stable your kh

also, dont just dose the ca part of it. Your calcium is good and you may not need to dose that. I never dose my calcium as my tank utilizes just the alk and mag part of it. My calcium is replinished with the water changes. I may dose 1 x week if that of calcium but double everything else So also continue to test your ca

Ok so I changed up my decision a bit and decided to go with the BRS 2 Part which is Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium. The price was about the same as the Kent 2 Part but BRS makes a gallon of both Calcium and Alkalinity and 20 oz of Magnesium so it is cheaper in the long run.

Anyway... I also ordered the Red Sea Reef Foundation tests to replace my old API tests. Comes with Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium. Once I get the shipment from BRS I am going to start testing for awhile and see what needs to be dosed. Considering my API tests are obviously not reliable, unfortunately, right now I have no idea what my real levels are.

This was a good move on your part. I have had good results with both the Red Sea test kits and the BRS two part solution. Be patient when testing your water parameters though. Its very easy to mistest and get totally wrong numbers if you are impatient. I say that from experience when I first got these test kits. lol

Can i ask what brand of salt you are using? I was using oceanic and all my corals hated my tank. I switched to reef crystals and now everything is loving life!

With just softies and lps i dont think you should need to dose anything with regular water changes with a GOOD salt. just my 2cents tho
