I am not an offshore boater, but I will be the first to say that an inboard is the way to go.

I am a boater, but after reading your post, I don't feel I have much to say regarding the type of boat.
I have a ski nautique direct drive inboard ski boat, but have had so many outboards over the years that I would suggest an inboard over multiple OB's any day of the week.

Less maintenance, plus as well as OB's are made now, they still can't handle the hours that an inboard can. There are many other reasons, but those are the 2 big ones.

for saltwater use maintenance is a big cost factor in having an outboard in ease of access and performing tasks such as a freshwater flush and other cleaning. Inboards are wonderful for freshwater and especially direct drives for watersports in that they have no gears or angles to throw off torque or thrust. Inboard/Outboard(freshwater) are great as well because they are maintained like a car.
For a saltwater inboard its a pain in the butt unless you have a direct drive inboard like a huge diesel, but then if you have that you can afford to not worry about it.. Its just my point of view..

If I were buying a boat for me, for offshore fishing, I would get a center console with 2 outboards. it will be your best bet in all aspects.

I agree with bama on the ease of maintenance on outboards. I love being able to pop the cover off and getting a 360 degree view of everything. No reaching your arm down holes and feelin for stuff you think is there.
