I've been getting bumps on my hands after working in my tank. I went to a dermatologist and found out I have warts and granuloma annulare which look like a ring shaped bump, they are only on my hands so I'm pretty sure they are from the fish tank. Does anyone know what could be causing this, corals, live rock, fish? I now use 24" long gloves when working in my tank except when I am handling corals.

I'm allergic to Euphyllia corals and get TEMPORARY swelling and bumps. I have some friends who are allergic to artificial salt and get temporary bumps. Are yours permanent?

A good friend of mine, who has never once put her hand in my fish tanks, developed GA, and hers was treated quite successfully with steroids.

karma up Omard I agree totally
But ive never heard of some one getting bumps etc. from just sticking thier hands in the saly water.
I might add that that salt water in general had some natural healing properties for us. sore muscles, cleaning cuts, etc.

With that said , you may be alergic to a certain chemical either present in the sea salt you use or a coral that is present in your tank.

My wife's hands will swell up from touching any thing in the tank it seemed when we started out ( she's known to be alergic to just about every thing ).
Since then I will not allow her to help me less her hands are protected with gloves.
would hate to think what a bristle/fire worm sting would do to a person that has bad alergic reactions.
( for that matter like a fox face or lion ) ouchies !.

I always wear gloves now for the most part , ive been stung by a bristle worm and it don't feel to good , made my finger swell a little and felt a deep buring for like a day.

Don't wanna sound to redundant here' but we should remember that most of the SW fish/inverts/corals we mess with toxins in them by which scientist/bioligist havint gotten to yet.

And some times caution/hand protection should be used when fooling with these exotic pets.

OK, don't click that first link if you're eating lunch like I am :-/ Sorry to hear about your woes! What are the chances that these warts/bumps will go away in time?

I would be looking at possible allergies to something in your tank or having some sort of parasite in your tank. From first hand experience, back when one of my tank was over ran with dinoflagelettes, after dealing with the tank, I would have red bumps all over my forearms that itched and burned. Washing my hands and arms with with an anti-bacterial soap after words would cure it for me and the bumps went away.
